In the establishment of the hospital, RSM got major support from two others: a family of Philanthropist Rao Bahadur Hanmantram Rathi and then Pune Municipality who gave spacious land of 3.5 acres for the hospital and agreed to be a partner in its management.
Hospital was started on 10th August 1926 in a rented space with the facility to accommodate only 5 patients in a very small format for the actual education of the Tilak Ayurvedic College students. The hospital was moved to its own building on July 9, 1931, as its workload gradually increased and the municipality acquired land and built its own building on it. For this Hospital, Late. Shri. Seth Hanmantram Ramnath Rathi donated Rs.50,000 to the hospital & was renamed as 'Sheth Tarachand Ramnath Charitable Ayurvedic Hospital' as per his wish.
Today, after 89 years, the third generation of Hanumantrao Rathi, and the Pune Municipal Corporation are working hand in hand with RSM to make Seth Tarachand Ramnath Charitable Ayurvedic Hospital, as one of the leading hospitals in India for the treatment of needy. Some of the largest slums of the city are not far away from the hospital.
